Blowing & bobbing

Bobbing – going up and down as a group

Led by the teacher, you all submerge and blow bubbles, returning to the surface for one breath before repeating.

Start slowly making an explosion of air just before surfacing, through the mouth  first and then finish through the nose, so they are ready to take a quick breath as soon as they break the surface.

“Make your mouth like mums vacuum cleaner, ready to suck in new air as soon as you come up”

Look for water staying in the mouth – it must be ejected with the air underwater, not above.

The tongue and cheeks squeeze out the water with the last of the air.

Blocking the nose with the top lip is an acquired skill very useful for helping to block the nose from water:

“Pretend you are an orangutan, put your lips out like you are kissing your mum goodnight”

Start slow and speed up, watching and correcting checking everyone is exhaling all of their air through the nose and mouth.
