Will Smith

Will Smith (19) started learning learnt to swim at Shirley Pool when he was eight years old, regularly taking part in lessons and galas until he was fifteen. When he expressed an interest in trying his hand at canoeing at Woodmill, his Mum did not hesitate to take him along.

“Because I knew Will was safe in the water, I did not worry about him being out in a boat” said Mrs. Smith. Will progressed well and was selected for the GB Junior team after competing well in the National Championships. He now represents his country  in C2, C1 and K1.

Will cites his biggest influence as his Mum:

“My mum helps to motivate me and is there for me whether I have done a good run or not and if not tries her best to cheer me up!”

Now fully funded, you can expect to see Will representing GB in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Everyone at Shirley Pool is proud that swimming gave Will the opportunity. Well done Will, and Mum.
