6 weeks to 8 months

Angelfish 1

    • Wet baby’s head and face.
    • Blows bubbles for baby while in a front hold.
    • Baby shows signs of understanding verbal cue and water pour.
    • Adult supports baby in a front hold and moves around the pool.
    • Adults supports baby holding on the edge for 5 seconds, climbing out, cue verbal lift baby in blow bubbles.
    • Support baby in a back floating position head on shoulder.
    • Roll baby from front to back float.

Angelfish 2

  • Encourage baby to splash hands on the water surface.
  • Adult support baby doing a paddle, paddle, kick, kick.
  • Adult prepares baby for underwater swim, cues baby (for underwater swim towards them)
  • Adult supporting baby holding on the edge for 5 seconds, climbing out, Cue verbal, takes baby under the water.
  • Support baby on their front, in a side hold and reach for a toy.
  • Adult support baby on back (head on shoulder) kicking around the pool.
  • Roll baby from back to front.

9 months – 18 months

Angelfish 3

  • Encourage baby to splash hands
  • Encourage baby to blow bubbles.
  • Move baby around the pool in a front swim position, encourage paddling, kicking and towards a toy.
  • Roll baby over from front, to back float position, count 3,2,1 up we come.
  • Encourage baby to hold on at the edge of the pool for 5 seconds. Assisted.
  • Support baby in climbing out of the pool.
  • Swimming around the pool. After song, cue; verbal and underwater swim towards adult.

Advanced Angelfish 4

  • Move baby around the pool in a front swim position, encourage paddling, kicking and movement.
  • Encourage copying an adult to ‘blowing bubbles’
  • Starting with feet on the wall, support baby in a back float and encourage kicking and move across the pool.
  • Sitting on the side, supported jump in, underwater, turn around and resurface to hold on to the edge.
  • Roll over from front swim position, to back float, sing song at the end 3,2,1, up we come.
  • Encourage monkey along the wall and then walk along the bottom or 2nd
  • Encourage baby to self submerge into the water from the steps and reach arms out towards adults.

18 months +

Angelfish 5

  • Encourage toddler to paddle arms and kicking legs while being supported by adult or aids across the pool.
  • Encourage toddler to pour water on them self with watering can.
  • Encourage copying an adult to ‘blowing bubbles’
  • Supported by adult, toddler puts feet on the wall on their front, push from wall paddle and kick action.
  • Toddler monkeys along the wall when teacher says stop, they hold on for 5 seconds (minimal assistance)
  • Standing on the side, supported jump in, underwater, turn around and resurface to hold on to the edge.
  • Dolphin dive, through a hoop with parent support (cue verbal) teacher resurface toddler.

Parent & Child Advance

Advnaced Angelfish 6 

    • Walking down the steps safety.
    • Sit on the steps, show basic leg kick actions.
    • Toddler is happy swimming with the teacher in a woggle showing a paddle and kick action.
    • Holding the edge for 5 seconds, climbing out with no support and jumping in, waiting for adult to cue verbal to jump into the water.
    • Toddler showing a back float with ears in the water showing a star float.
    • Adult encourage toddlers on the steps collecting hoops with blowing bubbles or eyes in.
    • Toddler is happy to be left alone with the teacher, adult leaves the pool.
    • Toddler walking up safely up the steps.

Advanced Angelfish 5

  • Show early safety awareness by waiting for adult to get in the water first
  • Encourage toddler to splash hands, splash toes.
  • Encourage toddler to blow (bubbles) an object around the pool.
  • Supported by adult, toddlers put feet on the wall on their back with ears in the water, push from the wall and kick to the other side.
  • Toddler swim in a woggle with a toy (minimal support from adult)
  • Dolphin dive, through a hoop with teacher support (cue verbal) adult resurface toddler.
  • Adult encourage toddler to roll over from front swim position, to back float looking up with ears in the water.
