We regularly run courses on-site, helping people gain nationally recognised qualifications and begin a rewarding career in swimming. Why Become a Swimming Teacher? Becoming a swimming teacher is a fantastic career path for those looking for a rewarding, active, and challenging role.

With flexible teaching hours to fit around your lifestyle, you’ll enjoy the satisfaction of a great work-life balance while teaching an essential life skill. Qualified swimming teachers are always in demand, with countless opportunities available at private swim schools and public leisure centres. The question is—will you be next?

Where to Start

The great news is you don’t need any previous experience or formal qualifications to begin your journey.

To get paid employment, you’ll need to complete a swimming teaching qualification with the STA. At Shirley Swimming Pool, we deliver the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming, the first step to becoming a fully qualified swimming teacher.

This course develops your technical knowledge and practical teaching skills, enabling you to independently teach classes of up to 12 participants, from non-swimmers and beginners to improvers—both children and adults.
