Duck

Duck 1

  • Identify the teacher and enter the water safely
  • Get face and hair wet, using hands and watering cans
  • Demonstrate alternating legs, kicking at water’s surface while sat on the steps
  • Walk across the pool (can use woggle or holding the wall for balance)
  • Blow a small object across the pool (can use woggle or holding the wall for balance)
  • Exit pool safely using steps

Duck 2

  • Enter the water safely using the steps
  • Walk across the pool showing paddle arms
  • Push and glide on front with a woggle (Teacher support)
  • Use a woggle to travel across the pool on front (Teacher support)
  • Use a woggle to travel across the pool on back (Teacher support)
  • Climb out at the pool edge safely (Teacher support)

Duck 3

  • Blow bubbles on water surface
  • Demonstrate good alternating leg kick at water’s surface on front and back while sat on the steps.
  • Demonstrate a star float on back for 5 seconds with a woggle (Teachers support)
  • Use a woggle to travel across the pool on front, chin near water
  • Use a woggle to travel across the pool on back
  • Holding on to the wall, move along the edge unassisted 3 metres(monkey, monkey)

Duck 4

  • Put face in the water and blow bubbles
  • Answer the safety awareness questions ‘Is it safe to go near the water on your own?’ and ‘Who should be with you?’ (teacher can put into context for child)
  • Sitting entry from poolside, rotate, and return to hold on to the edge
  • Demonstrate a star-float on back (teacher support)
  • Use a woggle to travel to the middle of the pool on front, turn around and return to the side (no standing up on turn)
  • Jump into the pool and return to the edge (teacher support)
