Open Water swimmers from Shirley Pool took part in a number of sea swims in the summer, culminating in the Brownsea Island Challenge in September. In turbulent conditions, Ashley Christopher was first round the 6.5k course in 1hour 49 minutes, swimming without a wetsuit. Fully clad and a little way behind were Steve Hansford (1.51), Dave Perry (1.55), Julia Maddock (2hrs 2 mins), Chris Cole (2.17) and Dean Eatwell (2.32). Ashley has now confirmed his date for the solo cross channel swim in 2017 and was in the Channel in August accompanying a cross channel effort as part of his preparation.
Several of the team and staff members raced River Itchen Biathlon, St.Ives Biathlon, River Dart 10k and Bournemouth Pier to Pier.
