Luke takes charge

West End Swim School, the operators of Shirley Swimming Pool, are delighted to announce the appointment of Luke Perry to the position of Managing Director.

Luke (28) began working in the family business at the tender age of 14, helping out on a Saturday morning and in the summer holidays.

Qualifying as a swimming teacher and lifeguard, Luke worked full time at the pool for two years before moving to Plymouth University to study Environmental Resource Management.

Whilst in Cornwall, Luke trained as a beach lifeguard and surf instructor, qualifications that enabled him to take up an instructor position as a surf coach in Karala, India.

Since returning from India, Luke has initiating among other things, the Big Red Bus Café.

Retiring MD Dave Perry said, “ Its terrific to have one of the family take up the role. It is unusual for a family business to pass to a third generation, so I am delighted”

“ Saving the pool from demolition in 1993 and then rebuilding the pool over the last twenty five years has been a really satisfying challenge, but it is time to make room for a younger man”

“I would like to thank all the fantastic teachers who have worked with Viv and I over the years to make the pool such a success, many of whom are still here, Chris, Jane, Jack and Abbie to name a few. And the customers of course, who appreciate the teaching and keep recommending us and bringing the next generations to learn. “
