| Some unusual star swimmers. Mick Byrne leads the dig to investigate the soil and foundations, 36 years after he led a team of local groundworkers in laying the foundations of the original Shirley Pool.
Others pictured are Graham, project manager and Lawrence, structural engineer and Micks 'young' helper.
The soil investigation was a success and Mick, who is 80 at the end of february, wants to be considered for the tender of the new foundations. The only time he has swam at Shirley however, was when he fell in fully dressed helping to pull on the old plastic cover.
Shirley Pool is amazed and grateful for the dedication of these men up to their necks in mud.
