Zoe has just completed her 2000 metre badge. 80 lengths. What makes Zoe (8) special is that she has reently diagnosed as a diabetic. Mum Julia and Zoe have taken the illness in their stride and continued with all her activities. During the gruelling swim, Zoe was fed small pieces of choclate to keep her sugar levels up. A week later Julia was back at the pool all afternoon as she encouraged older sister Amy(10) to complete her 5000m badge as part of the World Swim for Malaria Day. The family will be nominated for the ASA Special Achievment in Swimming awards in 2006.

Baby Ava is pictured with Grandma taking her first ever swim at 6 months old.

This is no ordinary grandma. Grandma Jane is the longest serving swimming teacher at Shirley Pool. Having introduced thousands of toddlers to the water over the years, Jane was very proud to introduce grandaughter Ava along with her children, Linsey, Catherine and Jonathon to the Shirley Pool. Well done Jane, well done Ava!
