A
new star at Shirley Swimming Pool.

Lifeguards
had quite a shock when six year old Isobel Moulsdale popped
into the Shirley Pool on Saturday to practise her swimming
with the aim of reaching the two hundred metre mark. A
little over an hour later she stepped out of the pool
tired but happy having swum a mile - 64 lengths of the
Kentish Road baths. Swimming teacher David Perry, “She
just kept going and although she slowed down a little
towards the end, I think she would still be swimming now
if we hadn’t shut the pool.

Her
stroke is so slow and elegant, she never gets out of
breath” The Netley Marsh schoolgirl, who has only
been learning to swim at Shirley for a year, shocked
her family when she arrived home with the award. “I
couldn’t believe it”, said Mum “She’s
only ever swum four lengths before. She wasn’t
tired and her legs didn’t ache at all. I was really
surprised and ever so proud of her. She has got lots
of sponsor money now!” Plucky Isobel was topping
up her lengths in an effort to “Swim the Channel”,
a sponsored event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief,
taking place at Shirley throughout 2005.
