Shirley Pool Newsletter October 2004

Christmas shutdown …

The last working day of 2004 for the Pool will be on Wednesday 22nd December when the pool will close at 9.00pm. During the shutdown there will be staff training and maintenance of the building. We will re-open on Tuesday 4th January 8am.

Half term Crash Courses….

Daily lessons in the afternoon during half term, Monday October 25th – Friday 29th October. Beginners are one hour duration at 2-3 or 3-4. Advanced beginners are 2-3 in the main pool. Improvers and above, including Tadpoles and Turtles, have a two hour lesson, 2-4pm. All courses are £60.00.The courses are a great way to accelerate learning as the children retain the previous days’s lesson. So far Jane & David have committed to teach.

Aquafit…

A new and very popular Aquafit class has been running on a Tuesday 8.30-9.30pm and from October 14th there will be a Thursday class from 7.00pm – 8.00pm. Classes cost £3.50 and no booking is needed at present.

Goggles!

Loan goggles are provided for trial lessons and forgetful parents. Well fitted, quality goggles make a real difference to a swimming lesson. Please make sure your child has their own goggles, clearly marked with their name. A linen name tag tacked to the strap helps to avoid goggles being mislaid.

E Mail addresses…

Please let us have your email address. Promise not to send you any junk or pass the information on. I would like to send these newsletters, timetable changes and birthday “cards” for the children

Parking…

Weather permitting, the car park will be lined at the Christmas break to make parking easier. I know it is necessary to park in the road at busy times, please be considerate to our neighbours. It is also acceptable to use the Health Centre car park.

Toilet training…

Recently we have had two accidents during children’s lessons in the main pool. Could I ask parents to be cautious. Children with upset stomachs should not swim. No food or drink should be taken within one hour of swimming, it cannot be digested and will often cause sickness.

Swipe Cards…

Our computer holds up to date personal records, medical history and emergency contacts on all swimmers. Every child should have a personalised membership card which they swipe on entry to at the desk. If you don’t have a card, it probably means that we don’t have any contact information.

Winter is coming…

New double glazed windows have been ordered throughout the building and are due for installation at Christmas. The new warm air blower will follow to make us nice & cosy during the winter months. As always, Shirley Pool will be the hottest place in town!

The leaking roof…

Continues to drip. Our latest attempt to fix the roof will take place at Christmas. No re-development can happen until the freehold purchase is complete, negotiations with the City fathers are progressing well. Thank you for your patience with the drips!

Direct Debit…

In case you were not aware, Direct Debit is the cheapest way to pay. Missed lessons can be made up which not only guarantees that you get full value but ensures that the children keep up the momentum of their learning. Adults & children on direct debit can swim free of charge in any public session.

Big Kids…

Well done to our team of swimmers that took part in the Padstow To Rock (Cornwall) Charity Swim recently. The event raised over £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Last but not least…

Welcome to our newest recruits. Cerian, Emily and Ria are qualified teachers studying at Southampton University and will be helping with cover work. Cerian has taken over from Deborah on a Saturday until next summer.
