Shirley Pool Newsletter June 2005

Welcome back Alfie….

I am delighted to welcome back Alfie Jenks to take up a permanent shift on Wednesdays 4-8pm . One of our most popular teachers, Alfie will bring his considerable experience to the big pool as replacement for Chloe. Cerian, Emily and Jo have also finished their studies and are spending their summer travelling .Wendy will take charge of Cerian's Saturdays class; Peter Hoyle, our Saturday small pool teacher, picks up the Wednesday teaching from Joe and David will be in the small pool Friday 4.00 - 6.00, Abbie climbs out of the chair to take over David's Friday big pool classes.

It is crucial to have consistency in the teaching staff and we will all miss our lovely student teachers. I know the children will love their new teachers.

Direct Debit…

Has proved to be a very popular. Just a few requests to help the system work better:

If you are not going to attend a lesson please let us know as soon as possible.

The main reason for the direct debit system was to ensure that children received regular tuition from
the same teacher. Children do not like change. Only cancel your lesson if they are ill and whenever
possible let us have as much notice as possible.

Re-arrange classes missed for holidays up to two weeks in advance so that we can release your space to
another swimmer. If you book an extra lesson and forget or decide to go on a picnic, that's fine, but
please don't ask to rearrange it again!

Organise the make up lesson straight away whenever possible, we cannot honour “old” or saved up lessons.

If you change from direct debit, let us have a months notice in writing and ensure that you allow enough time to complete the make up lessons before the final payment expires.

Summer Crash Courses….

Daily lessons in the afternoon during every week of the summer school holidays start Monday July 25 TH – Friday August 26th. Beginners are one hour duration at 2-3 or 3-4. Improvers and above, including Tadpoles and Turtles, have a two hour lesson, 2-4pm . All courses are £60.00.The courses are a great way to accelerate learning and catch up on badges.

Aquafit…

Abbies's Aquafit classes are now on a Tuesday 8.00-9.00pm and Thursdays from 7.00pm – 8.00pm . Classes cost £3.50, just turn up.

Goggles!

Loan goggles are provided for trial lessons and forgetful swimmers. Well fitted, quality goggles make a real difference to a swimming lesson. Please make sure your child has their own goggles, clearly marked with their name. A linen name tag tacked to the strap helps to avoid goggles being mislaid.

Tuesday Ault Classes

New class for adult improvers. 7.00-8.00pm Tuesdays. Get some exercise and learn to improve your strokes.

Parking…

I know it is necessary to park in the road at busy times, please be considerate to our neighbours. It is also acceptable to use the Health Centre car park after 5.00pm

Eating before swimming causes stomach cramp….

Recently we have had two incidents during children's lessons in the main pool. Could I ask parents to be cautious. Children with upset stomachs should not swim. No food or drink should be taken one hour before swimming as it cannot be digested and will often cause sickness.

Swipe Cards…

Our computer holds up to date personal records, medical history and emergency contacts on all swimmers . Every child should have a personalised membership card which they swipe on entry to at the desk. If you don't have a card, it probably means that we don't have any contact information.

Water Polo for teenagers…

New class Fridays at 8.00pm – 9.00pm with Water Polo coach Tom Noyce. Any swimmer with strong breaststroke legs and a competitive spirit will love this game - a cross between rugby and basketball in the water! Tom will coach teenagers (minimum age 11) and there are older players as well. Just turn up.

The leaking roof…

Continues to drip. Chris spends all his spare time repairing our ailing building. The freehold purchase is nearing completion. Thank you for your patience with the drips!

Thank you for your continued support, your recommendations to friends and family are very important for us.
