Shirley Pool Newsletter April 2008

New Pool Building

The plans are nearly completed, finalising the detail is taking longer than expected. The overall size has been reduced because of cost and fitting all our needs into the new space has been tricky. With time running short it seems unlikely that the plans will be passed in time for a summer closedown. The foundation work and detailed design will continue but it seems that we will have to wait until summer 2009 to have our second storey.

Prices changes

March 1 st prices increased slightly to help cover the huge rise in fuel bills over the last two years. Running a pool is now a very expensive business but we will always strive to give you great value and I hope you can continue to support us.

Pool hygiene

Recently there have been several incidents of children being sick during a lesson and it is clear that they have been fed without enough time for digestion. No food or drink should be consumed a minimum of one hour before swimming Any crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks are out of bounds before swimming.

If your child has had diarrhoeal illness recently they should not swim.

We have a flexible system that allows you to rearrange lessons, if in doubt, please postpone the lesson.

Feeding toddlers in the changing room is a good way to keep them content while you change, this we understand. It is, however, unpleasant to step on a soggy raisin or soppy sandwich. If you have to feed in the changing area please check the floor afterwards.

In our “new pool” we will have three changing areas that will give us more flexibility. Currently, the changing rooms are cleaned twice a day, between 3-4 and after we close. Between 4pm and 6pm , particularly at this time of year, the changing room do take a battering and we can't get in to clean.

If there are any areas we have missed, please bring it to our attention.

Direct Debits

This system is very popular and is now the only way to pay. The system relies on you telling us when you cannot attend. If you cannot give us notice it is not the end of the world, it just means you are not allowed to arrange a “make up” lesson.

Thank you also for your kind recommendations to friends and family; it is an invaluable source of promotion for the pool.
