Club Championships…
The finals take place on Saturday May 20 th 2006 at the Quays, 6pm - 9.00pm . All Tadpoles, Turtles and Dolphins are invited to take part in this terrific gala evening. The next day, Sunday 21 st May, all swimmers and their families are invited to the Barbecue and picnic at Manor Farm Country Park, where the presentations will be made after 2.00pm . All swimmers receive an award. This is a fabulous night for the children and an exciting way to see your children's progress. Please note the dates, entry forms are available from reception. The £5.00 entry fee helps towards the pool hire and medals. Closing date for entries is looming: April 21 st . Sign up now!
Picnic In the Park - Sunday May 21 st 2006 2.00pm onwards
All the children that take part in the gala ,along with their families, are invited to join our mass picnic at the Toplands Picnic & Barbeque Site, Manor Farm Country Park . There will be presentation to every child, medals for our winners, a hog roast and a mass chelidh (Scottish dance).Our “Masters” swimmers will host a beer tent and there are five barbeques that will be lit and ready to go by about 2.30. Bring your own meat, we will share salads and puddings. Presentations will take place around 3.00, Chelidh at 4.00. As long as it stays dry, it is a lovely venue, lots of walks to the Hamble RiverPut it on the calendar and pray for sunshine!
Channel Swimmers
All those that took part in the McMillan Cancer Relief Channel Swim are also invited to join the party on May 21 st . The Charity want to say thank you and announce the total raised to help build the new hospice at the hospital. Together with our Club swimmers they will enjoy the attention of the local press, barbecue and chelidh. Please wear your Channel T shirts.
Price Rises
Sorry, but the gas bill in February went up from £800 to £2500! This is the first price rise in three years and if we all share the hike in the gas bill we can keep the water and showers warm. Children's direct debits will be £26.00 per month, lane swimming £16.00 a month or £3.00. Changes take effect May 1 st 2006 . The good news is..
New Lockers
At Easter the lockers will be changed. The replacement lockers will return your 20p!
Star Swimmers…
Well done to Hannah Musker, Helen Thompson and Jack Vivian who came first in the Bazooka Schools Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield representing their school, Charlton House. Hannah also took part in the National Biathlon Championships (swim & run) finishing 19 th . Alexandra Diamond and Oliver Summers have both been selected to represent England Schools in a friendly International. All these children learnt to swim at Shirley Pool. Anthony Putman (67) also learnt to swim at the pool in his retirement. He has just completed his 100 mile swimfit award!
Free Parent & Baby Swimming
If you are paying by direct debit for the baby lessons, you may both swim free at public swimming times.
Crash Courses…
A few spaces left Week 2: Monday 10 th – Thursday 13 th. Stroke classes in the main pool 2.00-4.00pm . Summer Crash Courses begin on Monday July 24 th and run every week of the summer.
Aquafit…
Abbies's Aquafit classes are on a Tuesday 8.00-9.00pm and Thursdays from 7.00pm – 8.00pm . Classes cost £3.50, just turn up.
Goggles!
Loan goggles are provided for trial lessons and forgetful swimmers. Well fitted, quality goggles make a real difference to a swimming lesson. Please make sure your child has their own goggles, clearly marked with their name. A linen name tag tacked to the strap helps to avoid goggles being mislaid.
Parking…
It is sometimes necessary to park in the road at busy times, please be considerate to our neighbours. It is acceptable to use the Health Centre car park after 5.00pm
Swipe Cards…
Our computer holds up to date personal records, medical history and emergency contacts on all swimmers . Every child should have a personalised membership card which they swipe on entry to the pool at the desk. If you don't have a card, it probably means that we don't have any contact information. Please ask at reception.
Pictures on our website…
We plan to use short videos and still pictures of the swimmers for stroke analysis and other valid purposes on our website. If you would rather not have your child included, let us know.
Distance badges…
Two lanes are reserved on the last Saturday of the month for children to attempt distance awards. Check with their teacher first and then reserve a space at reception. There is no extra charge for direct debit customers.
