Was a great success, the children really behaved and performed well. Over 130 swam in over 70 events, all receiving an award and unlimited sweets! Photos and results are now on the web site. Thanks to Chloe and all the parent helpers that made the event run so smoothly and to Anders Svenson for presenting the winners with their awards at the Dolphin Hotel.

Annual membership subscription
for Tadpoles and Turtles & Dolphins due April 1st 2004

If you are paying by Direct Debit this £30.00 charge is included. If you chose to pay by blocks of lessons please settle the fee at reception.

Have you got your swipe card?

Every swimmer at the pool should have a swipe card. If your children have not, please take a few minutes to complete the details at reception. Emergency contact details and medical information are essential. Our camera will take a picture and we will make up a unique laminated swipe card.

The children should swipe each time they visit. When the system is live it will save interrupting the lesson to check names and allow us to keep a record of badges. There is no charge for the swipe card.

Easter Crash Courses

Another great success. The two hour session of play and teaching seems to work wonders. Pictures of all the children and those that achieved 1 mile or more are in the photo gallery on the website.
Now booking for half term.

New years resolution gone by the way side?

Unlimited swimming for adults, £15.00 a month by direct debit. Please don’t tell too many friends.

The Gossip on Alfie

After five years we will be saying goodbye to Alfie on May 11th.
Starting as a lifeguard, Alfie qualified as a swimming teacher and a Lifeguard Trainer and quickly proved to be very popular with the children.
With his own growing family now, Alfie has taken up a full time position as a DJ.
Staff and children wish him well. Chris White will take over his duties on a Tuesday and Thursday. Chris, a qualified teacher and lifeguard, swam butterfly at National level.

Adult Nervous Beginner

Now you have all the children safe in water, the holiday is booked and where will you be? One in three adults cannot swim; many that can swim still panic when water is on their face or out of their depth. Will you be jumping in the pool with the kids or sizzling in the sun making excuses? If you want to be in the water this summer, start now. Book a free trial lesson in the small pool in the evening when all the kids have gone to bed or a Monday morning at 9.15am. It is warm and shallow and the teachers do understand the panic you feel.

Adult Improvers will improve your technique, teach you to dive, tread water, improve your stamina £28.00 a month covers one lesson a week and unlimited access to public or adult lane swimming. Have a free trial lesson Monday or Wednesday evening.

Breaststroke Classes

Teaching children breaststroke is a long, slow process. We have developed methods of teaching that make children safe in the water quickly, help them grasp the basics of backstroke, front crawl and butterfly in a short period of time and come to realise that there is no shortcut to a perfect breaststroke! Please be patient. Their progress will appear to slow and badges will be less frequent, but all the teachers are focused on achieving progress. It is worth the wait. Once the children have grasped this complex stroke, they will retain it for life!

Free coffee mornings for pensioners

Warm water, hot drink and a friendly face. No matter what the weather is like, it is always summer at Shirley Pool. Over 50’s sessions are on a Tuesday at 9.00am and Thursday at 10.00am
A swim and a hot drink is only £2.00

Direct Debit Customers

If you are unable to make a class, please call and arrange the “make up” lesson. Otherwise it is easy for the missed lessons to build up and we cannot clear backlogs of “owed lessons”. Double up lessons where you can and take two lessons in a week before your holidays.
