A team of swimmers from Southampton have made National Headlines by winning the Bazooka Schools Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield

Bazooka Schools Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield:

Three of the five swimmers were taught and trained at Shirley Swimming Pool. Hannah Musker, Helen Thompson and Jack Vivian learnt to swim and joined the swimming club before going on to develop their swimming through their school, Charlton House.

Headmaster Brother Davis was delighted at the results

“ The school puts a lot of time into sports as well as study and our swimming club has always been popular. We reached the final a few years ago and finished fourth so to get another chance and win is fantastic, particularly for a small school like ours. All credit to the coaches and of course the swimmers”

The 50m Commonwealth Pool hosted schools from all over the country who had battled through regional rounds for their chance of the title.

The school take the children swimming every week to Shirley Pool as part of their normal curriculum.

According to Shirley coach Dave Perry the school should take a lot of the credit,

“ Every now and again you are lucky enough to have a group of talented swimmers at the same school. Charlton House have had more than their fair share with two teams making the finals in recent years, but that is a direct result of their positive approach to swimming”,
